Born to be Wild!!!!

After a two weeks filled with work at my new temp job, an ice storm and a Turkey-tastic holiday, I thought I'd get back to my blog to update everyone on our latest Minnesota related adventures.  About a week ago, Flavio continued his Minnesota indoctrination by going to his first Minnesota Wild hockey game at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Now, as a native and resident of "The State of Hockey", I realize that what I'm about to say may be considered blasphemy - I don't really like hockey.  In my defense, I want to note 1) I'm a girl and more importantly 2) I come from the lost generation of Minnesotans who grew up without an NHL franchise - the North Stars were moved to Dallas in 1993, when I was 13, and the Wild's first season was in 2000-2001, the year before I moved to New York to go to law school.  And, while I will admit watching hockey in person can be fun (U of M hockey games at Mariucci are a blast) televised hockey games are terribly boring.  Last, and most importantly, some of the new NHL pentalties created in the past 15 years have taken all the fun out of the game - and by "fun", I mean fights.  And what's a hockey game without fisticuffs?? - Lame, that's what.

And while I myself am not a hockey fan, I somehow managed to marry a Mexican guy from L.A. who loves hockey.   A pretty spectacular feat, if I do say so myself.

Which brings us to the game:

Wild Game 3
Wild Game 1

As many of you know, Flav works for Xcel Energy, as in "The Xcel Energy Center, Home of the Minnesota Wild!!!"  Fortunately for us, one of the perks of working for the company with its name on the arena is occasional tickets in the company suite.  Definitely a nice little pat on the back to Flav for a job well done these past couple of weeks.

Despite my lukewarm attitude toward hockey, the game was pretty fun.  I especially enjoyed the pee-wee hockey game between the 1st and 2nd period - totally hilarious/adorable.

Wild Game 4
Oversized Hockey Pads + Occasional Tumble
= Awesome

On the whole, we had a great time.  And how did the Wild fare against the NY Rangers?  Let's just say, it wasn't pretty......

Wild Game 7
Wah!!! Wahhh!!!!

Guess you can't win them all......
