Flaviana Blog Editorial - Gay Weddings Are Awesome

Hey Everyone.  So, it's been a while since I've made an entry into the ol' bloggorino.  Mostly because we've had a crazy couple of months - new house, suffering through a heat wave with no A/C (more on that later) and lots of summer events.

Annnddd, speaking of summer events, this past weekend, for the third time in my life, I donned a dress that had been picked out by someone else, carried a bouquet of flowers and walked down the aisle as a bridesmaid in a wedding.  But this wasn't just any wedding.  It was a celebration of my brother's Phillip's marriage to Aaron, his partner of 3+ years.  And like any event planned by my mother, this was the event of the decade!!

And....we're back

Well, it's been a while since I've updated the old Flaviana blog.  Why no posts, you ask?  Mainly, because it's been a busy couple of months for us here in the 'Sota.

As a tribute to one of my favorite books/movies High Fidelity, I now present you with our "Top Five" highlights of the first few months of 2011:

Restaurants I Like: Fuji Ya - Uptown Minneapolis

IMG_0576

Since moving to Minnesota, I've left the land of Curvy-ville and hopped on an express train to Chubby-town.  So how exactly did my ass become so enlarged?  While my new sedentary lifestyle may be partially to blame, I'd place a lot of the fault on the great restaurants in the Twin Cities that Flavio and I have been frequenting in the months following our move to Minneapolis.

Which leads me to a new series of posts on the Flaviana Blog: Restaurants I Like - featuring reviews of area restaurants in the Twin Cities that, well, I like. And if these posts encourage some of our friends in New York and other locals to come to the Mini-apple for a visit (ahem, you know who you are...) then I guess that's just gravy:)

Are you Ready for Some Futbol???

This Sunday marked an athletic showdown for the ages.  And no, I'm not talking about the Superbowl. (more on that later)  Obviously, I'm referring to the Epic English Premiere League Battle between the Liverpool and Chelsea Football Clubs.  (or, as we Americans call it - "Soccer Teams")

Night at the Museum

Last Friday night, Flavio and I decided to get our culture on at the Walker Art Center, attending an event part of the After Hours series, self-dubbed by the Walker as "the hippest place to be in the Twin Cities."  Unfortunately, unlike the film staring Ben Stiller and Luke Wilson, this "night at the museum" was not one of dioramas come to life, cameos by Oscar the Grouch or hijinks ensuing.   And though it lacked in muppets and PG family fun, the event had an abundance of modern art, hipsters and Wolfgang Puck catered tuna hot dish. (not even joking)

The Natural Disaster that Changed my Life - One Year Later

As our country once again faces the horrific tragedy that occurred in Arizona this past weekend, I can't help but think of another tragedy that happened just one year ago on January 12, 2010.  On this day, Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake that killed approximately 250,000 and left millions homeless.

Another Year Older, Another Year Wiser??

Happy New Year everyone, and welcome back to the Flaviana Blog.  As some of you may have noticed, there was a noticeable absence of blog postings last month - largely because I was busy with a temp job where I was being paid actual money to write and edit articles that will be published in a book later this year.  (Ahh, if only I had known my writing was good enough to earn me a living before I went to law school....but I digress...)

Fortunately (or unfortunately) for all of you, one of my new year's resolutions is to be more diligent about posts to my blog!  So let's get started, shall we?
